The leading Russian expert, mentor, and well-recognized international researcher in the field of economic demography and migration processes on the post-Soviet space and modern Europe.

The author more than 600 scientific publications, including monographs ‘Involvement of foreign highly qualified specialists to Russia: tendencies and prospects’ (2017), ‘Migratory crisis and formation of Muslim communities in Europe: tendencies and consequences’ (2016), ‘New model of labour market of Russia: Role of external factors’ (2014), ‘Ours Abroad’ (2014), ‘Modeling of labor migration in Central Asia’ (2013), ‘The Chinese migration in Russia: consequences, tendencies and approaches to regulation’ (2010), ‘The atlas of demographic development of Russia’ (2009), ‘Demographic prospects of Russia’ (2008), ‘Labor migration in CIS and Baltic countries: tendencies, consequences, regulation’ (2008), ‘Labor emigration of women from Russia: departure, employment and protection of the rights’ (2008).

His work ‘The impact of migration on the socio-economic development of Europe: modern trends’ (2002) was awarded the prize and medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences for young scholars.

As a widely sought-after expert and frequent public speaker, S. Ryazantsev is in long-term collaboration with the Russian presidential and governmental bodies responsible for demographic and migration policy. Among other things, he participated in designing the RF State program to promote the return of compatriots living abroad, as well as ‘The concept of Russia’s demographic policy until 2025’.

He is the research leader and the participant of many projects which are carried out for the Russian ministries (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and Social Development, Ministry of Science and High Education) and the international organizations (ILO, IOM, UNFPA, ESCAP, Council of the Baltic Sea of the States).
Prof. S. Ryazantsev is a recognized lecturer and mentor. More than 10 years he heads the Department of demographic and migration policy of the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO-University) of the RF Ministry Foreign Affairs. Also, he is the Director of an MA program in International migration (MGIMO) and the professor at the Department of international economic relations of the Peoples ‘ Friendship University of Russia.

S. Ryazantsev was the visiting professor at the University of California Davies (USA), Hokkaido University (Japan), the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Hitotsubashi University (Japan), European University Institute (Italy), University of Sydney and Academy of the Humanities (Australia).
